Suspect in deadly Planned Parenthood attack declares self guilty
(video included)

I’ve held off from commenting on this story for two weeks because I was hoping that we could all to hear it from his mouth first. Now we know for certain the motivations behind the November 27 terrorist attack at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, CO.

As if there was any doubt from the very beginning as to his motivations, it’s now clear that the terrorist was driven by anti-choice rhetoric. You can argue that this man is mentally unstable, and he may be, but it would be ridiculous to ignore the role played by conservative talk show hosts/politicians (some of whom are 2016 presidential candidates) and disingenuous organizations such as the Center for Medical Progress and their not-so-cleverly doctored videos spreading lies upon lies upon lies about Planned Parenthood.

Before the release of this most recent story of the terrorist’s court appearance, I’d heard everything from “it was just NEAR a Planned Parenthood, not AT a Planned Parenthood” to assuming he was driven to commit violence by being “tanked up [on pot brownies],” whatever that means. Inevitably, of course, these laughable rationalizations intending to distance conservative politics and ideological fear mongering from this shooting were put to rest.

I hope that this tragedy serves as a wake-up call to any current or future terrorists in the anti-choice crowd. (Don’t accuse me of painting with too broad a brush. Obviously not all anti-choicers are terrorists, nevertheless, there is quite a list of anti-choice terrorists in the past.) Worshipping and defending fetuses by way of murdering actual, real-life people with real families who have been left behind makes no sense. Terrorists, if you want to make abortions illegal again by overturning Roe v. Wade, then simply compile a legitimate case against abortion rights (good luck with that) and present it to the Supreme Court. You won’t even have to murder anyone (anymore), won’t that be nice?
